Kids Birthday Party Ideas Perfect for Summer

by Rebecca Gold 14 Jul 2022

Got a summer baby in your household? It’s the perfect time of year to celebrate with family and friends! Parents looking for a fun birthday party idea for summer can take advantage of the sunshine and the amazing weather to throw some joyful celebrations for their kids and their best buds. These celebrations are the stuff your kids will remember for a lifetime. The experiences your kids and their friends have during their summer birthday celebrations will turn into precious memories that they’ll cherish into adulthood - so make it count! No pressure, right? Here are some genius party ideas for kids:

Dance Party

Dance Party

Does your kid love to dance? Throw one big dance party to help them celebrate! There are plenty of ways to do this depending on what your child enjoys and your budget. One way is to invite all their friends over and blast their favorite music - this works for any time of day or night. For evening or night parties, decorate the space with blacklights and neons. Pass out glow sticks as party favors, throw on some jams and watch your kids have a blast! Another option is to hire a dance instructor to host the party. A host will keep your kids’ attention and lead them with easy-to-follow dance moves. A good host will keep them engaged, give them activities, and might even kick off a mini dance battle for some healthy competition.  A great way to get morale going is to ask kids to show up in their favorite dance gear or comfortable clothes for movement. Colorful leggings and matching tops are the cutest, most comfortable dance gear and will make for amazing photo opps! If you have a higher budget, you could provide dance outfits as party favors! Leggings and matching top sets. If you are doing teams, you could provide team tee shirts and leggings for a uniformed look and to make the experience even more memorable.

Escape Room or Scavenger Hunt

Escape Room or Scavenger Hunt

You’ve probably heard of or even completed an escape room before. Kids that are slightly older, like 5th-8th graders, might appreciate going to an escape room and working together to get out of the room. If there’s enough kids, you can split up the kids into two or more groups then see which group escapes the room first, then award those team members a prize. This type of activity is not only fun, but it’s healthy and challenging for the kids and gets them unplugged from their devices and thinking critically and logically.  Get the teams kicked off with some custom tees so that each team is distinguished by their team name or team colors. Getting the kids outfitted in their custom tees will also boost morale and inspire more involvement in the escapes! If there is not a budget for an Escape Room, you can do the next best thing: a home scavenger hunt! Create a fun scavenger activity where you plant items either around the house or around the neighborhood (Get your trustworthy neighbors involved!) and see which team finds all their items first.

Braid Bar

Braid Bar

Ever heard of a braid bar? It’s a professional braiding service that specializes in kids’ parties! Young girls LOVE having their hair done. It’s a fun party activity that will leave the girls looking and feeling like little Rapunzel princesses. There are braid bar services that cater specifically to little girl’s parties and they not only braid your kids natural hair, but they also weave in colorful hair extensions, hair decorations like glitter, rhinestones, bedazzled hair clips, metal hoop adornments, tiaras and so much more! Whether your daughter’s party is unicorn themed or princess themed or superhero themed, there is a braid bar theme that will be perfect for her celebration! Hire a braid bar and watch the fun begin.

Zoo and Aquarium Sleepovers

Zoo and Aquarium Sleepovers

This one is especially perfect for kids who love animals. Some zoos or aquariums offer kids’ programs, summer camps and sleepover nights that include camp activities, an after-hours look at the wildlife, guided walks, a campfire experience, some snacks or food and more. Find out from your local zoo if this is a program they offer and watch your child go giddy with excitement at the thought of spending the night with friends and their favorite animals!
