The Self-Care Weekend Guide

by Rebecca Gold 22 Sep 2021

Let’s be real, there’s a lot going on in the world these days and TBH, it’s a lot to process for anyone. As if world events weren’t enough to deal with, we each have our own responsibilities, issues and worries that we carry with us on the daily. Whether it’s home life, relationships, work, school, kids or whatever, it can be easy to get anxious, stressed out and mentally drained these days. Always remember you can’t pour from an empty cup, so it’s important to take moments for yourself. Don’t feel guilty about it, it’s necessary to reset so you can get back to your duties with more clarity and a renewed energy. Spend some time doing things you love or that make you feel joy. Here are some great ways to treat yourself and invest in some self-care.

Take a Spa Day

Take a Spa Day

This is the most obvious way to relax, but it is SO effective and SO necessary! Take a day to pamper yourself. We hold a lot of tension in our muscles, especially when we’re used to sitting at a desk or dealing with stressful situations. Book a day at a spa and get a massage to help you release that tension! Your spa day can include anything from facials to hot stone treatments, deep tissue massages, aromatherapy, or sauna time.

Get Dressed Up

Get Dressed Up

Who says you only need to dress up to impress others? The truth is we all feel a little jolt of confidence, a little pep in our step when we dress up and are glamorous. You don’t need to do it for anyone other than yourself. Take the time to do your hair, nails and makeup, if they make you feel good. Use your favorite perfumes, throw on your favorite sandals or heels or sneakers (whatever your style is), dress up in a nice sundress with bright floral prints or whatever your favorite looks are, and get ready for a date - a date with yourself!

Hit the Beach

Hit the Beach

There’s something so soothing about hearing the ocean waves, the call of seagulls, feeling the sun’s rays and the warm breeze on your skin. If you’re feeling wound up, throw on a cute swimsuit and take a beach day. Research has shown that the sound of the ocean waves have therapeutic benefits that can help you get to a meditative state. In addition, breathing in the salty ocean air has also been connected to benefits to your lungs. Take a picnic basket, a towel and a good book. Don’t forget your SPF!

Take a Yoga Class

Take a Yoga Class

Yoga has so many benefits! Some of them are helping you become stronger, more limber and flexible. Yoga also has a meditative aspect to its class structures that really help you clear your mind and get back to your center. You can plan to go to a Yoga class alone or bring a friend that makes you feel at ease and relaxed. Make it a special day by getting a cute yoga wear set, like some printed yoga leggings and matching sports bra. For some people, wearing a nice, loose-fitting top might be more comfortable with your leggings, whatever your style is, make sure you feel great in it!

Plan a Girl’s Night

Plan a Girl’s Night

There’s something so energizing about spending time with your girls. Gather your besties and plan a girl’s night. Whether it’s pizza, champagne and movies, or maybe a game night with Cards Against Humanity and Jenga, take a moment to enjoy the important ladies in your life. Kick back, let your hair down, have some good laughs and the ‘tea’ flow.

Take a Dance Class

Take a Dance Class

Getting your body moving is important to your health. It also releases endorphins that make you feel happy and fulfilled. Take a dance class to reconnect with your body and coordination. You don’t have to be a pro to take a class, either. Choose a dance type that you feel passionate about. Whether that’s hip hop, ballet, jazz, african dance, salsa, bachata, or even pole dance, it doesn’t matter. Throw on some cute leggings with a print you love; if you’re bringing a friend, try rocking some coordination outfits like the same matching sets of printed leggings + sports bras.

Eat Good

Whatever you choose to do, make sure you ALSO invest in some yummy eats that make you feel good! Find a healthy balance between comfort foods like cookies and other treats, and foods that have high quality and nutritious value. Want bottomless mimosas at lunch? Go for it! But counter it with some slightly healthier choices in your entree. Go healthy and energizing to help your body get nutrients, feel light and refreshed. Smoothies, smoothie bowls, cottage cheese, fresh fruits, flavorful salads or wraps - whatever you like, indulge! Good food is a big part of self care.
